CHAMBER MUSIC WORKSHOPS, July 1st-6th and July 8th-13th, 2024

String Quartets and other string ensembles: A workshop for adult string players

Who: Adult students of stringed instruments, aged 21+. Participants may register for one or both workshop weeks. Individuals and members of pre-formed ensembles are welcome to apply.

What: Chamber music rehearsal coachings, individual lessons, string technique, body mechanics, and ensemble-rehearsal strategies for chamber ensembles. Performance preparation and a public concert celebrate the end of each workshop.

When: July 1st-6th, and/or July 8th-13th. Monday-Friday, 9:30am-12:30pm. July 4th begins at 10:30am-1:30pm. Saturday sessions 10:00am-Noon. Concert at 2:00pm on Saturday, July 6th and 13th.

Where: Workshop sessions take place at the home and backyard garden of Alice Blankenship. Concert locations TBD.

Cost: $300 per person

Telemann Fantasia in B minor, TWV 40:22 for solo violin

Telemann's beautiful Fantasia in B minor was the perfect piece to practice during the 2020 Covid lockdown. It is poignant, determined, sometimes achingly lonely yet tenacious, ending with a dancelike romp. Musical medicine!

Hostedans in Concert!

Island Park, 200 West B street, Springfield, Oregon

Høstedans will perform classical and folk dance music, arranged by Alice Blankenship and Michael Anderson for Høstedans. Presenting music of Brahms, Bartok, Shostakovich, Piazzolla, as well as traditional folk dances of Scandinavia, Høstedans will invite audience members of all ages to join in the dance! This concert is supported by a grant from the Springfield Arts Commission, and is Free and open to the public.

Alicats/Violette/Høstedans!

Alicats: baroque and folk duos on baroque-period instruments, performed by Alice Blankenship and Ali Luthmers

Violette: violin and clarinet duos performed by Alice Blankenship and Michael Anderson

Høstedans: Scandinavian folk dance band, based in Eugene Oregon, founded by Alice Blankenship

Shoemaker's Dance

This children's dance from Denmark portrays a Shoemaker, creating a pair of leather shoes. With tapping fists, stamping feet and turning in circles, very young children learn good coordination in this fun dance.
